Our first public meeting was held on Wednesday, February 27, 2018 at the Auburn Avenue Public Library. Not only is AARL one of our member institutions, but we wanted our first meeting to be at a central, public location during Black History Month.

Third-seven people attended for a panel discussion, conversation, and delicious refreshments. We hosted three local users of archives to talk about their experiences.

  • Dr. Jeanne Bohannon, of Kennesaw State University, spoke about her ongoing digital project about the Atlanta Student Movement
  • Christi Jackson, Historian for the Conservancy of Historic Washington Park, spoke about the challenges of battling gentrification through historic preservation
  • Dr. Joe Perry, of Georgia State University, spoke about his ongoing efforts to introduce students to archives
